Three-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the creative mind behind the How to Train Your Dragon” franchise, leads an incredible live-action re-imagining of the animated trilogy.
On the rugged island of Berk, a place where Vikings and dragons have clashed for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands out as an unconventional young man. As the inventive yet underestimated son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, returning to his iconic voice role from the animated series), Hiccup challenges deep-seated traditions when he forms an unlikely friendship with Toothless, a Night Fury dragon feared by all. This bond reveals a surprising truth about dragons, shaking the very core of Viking beliefs.
With the determined and spirited Astrid (BAFTA nominee Nico Parker; Dumbo, The Last of Us) and the eccentric blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost; Shaun of the Dead, Snow White and the Huntsman) by his side, Hiccup faces a society gripped by fear and misunderstanding.
When a looming danger threatens both dragons and Vikings alike, Hiccup’s connection with Toothless becomes the cornerstone of a new vision for peace. Together, they must confront the challenges of their divided world, soaring beyond boundaries and redefining heroism and leadership.
The cast also features Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Gabriel Howell (Bodies), Bronwyn James (Wicked), Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), BAFTA nominee Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones).
Written, directed, and produced by Dean DeBlois, How to Train Your Dragon also boasts production from three-time Oscar® nominee Marc Platt (La La Land, Wicked) and Emmy winner Adam Siegel (Drive, 2 Guns). The film is part of the Filmed for IMAX® program, using advanced IMAX® technology to deliver a cinematic experience unlike any other.
Inspired by Cressida Cowell’s bestselling How to Train Your Dragon books, the DreamWorks Animation franchise has captured hearts around the world. Having earned four Academy Award® nominations and grossing over $1.6 billion globally, this beloved saga now takes on a new life in a live-action format. With groundbreaking visual effects, DeBlois reimagines the epic journey of Hiccup and Toothless, bringing their tale of friendship, courage, and destiny to the screen with stunning realism.
