Part canine, part human- all hero.
From the studio behind popular hits like Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, and The Boss Baby comes a thrilling new adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s bestselling Dog Man.
After a brave police dog and his human handler are injured on the job, an unconventional but life-saving surgery combines them into one, resulting in the creation of Dog Man. Now that he’s part dog and part human, he’s committed to upholding law, order, and (of course) fetching, sitting, and rolling over.
As Dog Man adjusts to his new life and works to earn the approval of his boss (played by Lil Rel Howery; Get Out, Free Guy), he faces the mischievous supervillain Petey the Cat (voiced by Pete Davidson; Saturday Night Live, The King of Staten Island). Petey has a dastardly plan to clone himself, creating Lil Petey (a mini version of himself) to expand his criminal pursuits. However, it all takes a surprising turn when Lil Petey forms an unlikely connection with Dog Man.
When Lil Petey falls into trouble with a mutual enemy, Dog Man and Petey must put their differences aside in a fast-paced, make-it-or-break-it mission to save him. As they embark on this venture, they’ll discover that even the worst of enemies can come together for family (and kittens!)
The cast also features the talents of Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers, Rango) as TV reporter Sarah Hatoff; Poppy Liu (Hacks, The Afterparty) as Butler, Petey’s assistant; Emmy nominee Stephen Root (Barry, King of the Hill) as Grampa; Billy Boyd (The Lord of the Rings, Seed of Chucky) as Seamus, Sarah’s cameraman; and Emmy and Golden Globe winner Ricky Gervais (The Office, Extras) as Flippy the fish.
Directed by Emmy winner Peter Hastings (The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness), who’s also known for the iconic animated series Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain, the film is produced by Karen Foster (Spirit Untamed), who co-produced How to Train Your Dragon.
Since its launch in 2016, Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man series has become into a global sensation, with 12 books in the series and over 60 million copies in print, available in 47 languages. A spin-off series, Cat Kid Comic Club, launched in 2020 and has also reached the status of international bestseller. The most recent addition to the Dog Man series, Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea, was the #1 bestselling children’s book in the U.S. in 2023. Pilkey’s upcoming book, Dog Man: Big Jim Begins, is scheduled to be released on December 3, 2024.
Dog Man will be distributed by Universal Pictures and is set to be an animated action-comedy for viewers of all ages.
