One of the biggest New York Comic Con 2024 panels was a showcase of the return of legendary Disney animated series Phineas And Ferb. The characters are a year older in the new season, premiering in 2025 on Disney Channel and Disney+. The spirit, music and humor that made the previous seasons so beloved are back and, according to the makers, better than ever.
Co-creator Jeff “Swampy” Marsh was emotional in front of a packed crowd on Thursday. He’s thrilled to share more of P&F with the world and having the “freedom to explore characters more freely.” It all kicks-off with a musical sequence (shown exclusively to the NYCC audience) in which Phineas, Ferb and their friends are celebrating the final moments of the school year and half a day before their next 104 days of summer vacation begin. Fellow co-creator Dan Povenmire has been working hard with some original and new writers coming-up with storylines, admitting that in order to not repeat themselves, “Sometimes we have to look it up on Wiki.” He loves being able to “try new things.”
Povenmire will also sometimes perform his Dr. Doofenschmirtz voice on the phone “in a really nice restaurant”, often at the request of actress Caroline Rhea (Linda) for her friends. “It’s a real gift to be on any show that makes children happy,” Rhea said, adding that this is the best job she’s ever had (with apologies to “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”). Ashley Tisdale, the voice of Candace, agrees. Tisdale was pregnant while recording much of this new season, telling everyone that she screamed a lot in the booth: “I got to just be crazy.”
Dee Bradley Baker voices Perry the Platypus. For him it’s, “the most amount of money for the least amount of work. A unicorn of a show.” Alyson Stoner (Isabella) loves the “global success” the series has had over the past 17 years. Fans have approached her saying Isabella’s trademark “Whatcha Doin’?” catchphrase in several different languages. The newest cast member is David Errigo, Jr., taking over the role of Ferb. He assured anyone skeptical that, as a lifelong lover of the series, these new episodes absolutely deliver. And as for working with the entire team, “They’ve treated me like family from day one.”NYCC guests received an awesome exclusive t-shirt with the new season’s first promotional image. The presentation, moderated by Variety’s Michael Schneider, also included videos that served as trips down memory lane, highlighting the impact of the show, its iconic songs and A-list guest stars. This journey has meant everything to the voice of Phineas, Vincent Martella, who didn’t think the series would return, following its original 2015 finale and 2020 movie “Candace Against the Universe”. Now he wants to do it forever. “It’s the most important thing that I’ve worked on. 17 years — that’s a long time to know someone.”
