Anderson accepted the award (from the cast of Star Wars: Mark Hamill, BB-8, Kelly Tran and Oscar Issac). The Academy Award for Best Animated Short went to Dear Basketball. Glen Keane (director/animator) and Kobe Bryant (writer/narrator) accepted the award.
Based on an original idea by Unkrich, Coco was directed by Unkrich and co-directed by Adrian Molina. The story follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who is accidentally transported to the land of the dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family among the living.
In Dear Basketball, NBA legend Kobe Bryant describes his love for the game, which began when he was a young child. From his youthful dreams of glory to his 20-year career, Bryant describes how he and basketball have given each other all they have.
