For fans of the isekai classics, Crunchyroll recently announced the release date for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea. As the second film for the franchise, it follows a similar side-story adventure around the slimeful main character Rimuru and his companions following season 3, this time visiting a resort island. The film will debut exclusively in theatres on May 1 in the United States and Canada, distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures. Fans have the choice of original Japanese audio with English subtitles or the official English dub. The film was led by director Yasuhito Kikuch, with screenplay from Toshizo Nemoto, story concept by Fuse and animation by Eightbit.

Crunchyroll’s Anime Nights program will feature the franchise’s prior movie, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond, on April 20, 2026, giving time for fans to catch up on previous installments. The Anime Nights screening will also feature a 10 minute sneak peek for Tears of the Azure Sea.

Your average mid 30s office worker, Minami Satoru, dies protecting his friend, and is reincarnated into a magical world as a slime. He’s rendered blind, deaf, weak, and inhuman. But two special abilities were granted to him, “Predator” and “Great Sage,” which enable him to turn a miserable existence into a new chance at life. 

Synopsis

Celestial Emperor Elmesia invites Rimuru and his companions to her private resort, but their vacation is crashed by the mysterious Yura, claiming to be from an undersea nation seeking help. The azure sea is at threat, and a conspiracy looms in the dark, threatening more than just the ocean.
