Jojo steelball 900

The sixth anime adaptation of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, is coming to Netflix straight out of the same creative team behind the past seasons. While no official date is confirmed, keeping the same faithful and driven crew behind the fan-adored adaptations so far is a great sign for the next installment.

The masterpiece from Hirohiko Araki, known as Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, was first serialized in 1986 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The manga skyrocketed in popularity, becoming a worldwide hit. It begins with the first Joestar and follows each generation’s descendant for the parts after, with Steel Ball Run being not only the seventh part, but a second continuity separate from the main storyline.

The unique and stylistic onomatopoeia-filled world of Jojo’s has earned its fervent support and die-hard fans, with a total of over 120 million copies sold. The sheer popularity of Jojo’s cannot be overstated, and the absurd and goofy nature of the series has influenced popular culture for years. As of today, the ninth part of the manga, The JOJOLands, is being currently serialized in Japan in Ultra Jump, to wide acclaim.

Set in the 19th century, Steel Ball Run is about the very first cross-continental horse race, titularly named, that took place in North America. The story follows Johnny Joestar, a retired athlete and paraplegic, joined by a shady outlaw, Gyro Zeppeli.

Sharing his excitement, Director Yasuhiro Kimura stated “Steel Ball Run is a story that depicts characters running through a grand race, staking their own beliefs. My heart is pounding with excitement to be entrusted with directing this anime adaptation. The entire staff shares this feeling and is pouring their passion into daily production. I look forward to sharing our enthusiasm for this work with all of you and hope we can ride this journey together.”
