Obscured Releasing, a new distribution company launched by RJ Millard and Bill Guentzler, announced today the acquisition of U.S. distribution rights to Endless Cookie. The film, directed by Seth Scriver and Pete Scriver, will be released theatrically on December 5, 2025.
Endless Cookie is the first feature length animated documentary from Seth and Pete Scriver–though, to be fair, they have been painstakingly assembling it for the last 8 years (which pales in comparison to how long it took Pete to get photo I.D.).
The film plays out like a particularly tangential fever dream–a colorful depiction of themany overlapping episodes of the brothers’ lives–from their upbringing in DowntownToronto’s Kensington Market to Pete’s current residence in a remote Northern Manitoba First Nation community. As they reminisce, their yarns are often punctuated, interrupted or else hijacked by the charismatic members of their family who indulge in their own reveries. Endless Cookie is at heart an impressionistic and often surreal depiction of family, but it is also a documentary of the creative process.
Following its Sundance premiere, Endless Cookie has enjoyed a strong festival run, winning the Golden Alexander at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival and the Contrechamp Jury Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The film also won the Rogers Audience Award for Best Canadian Feature at the 2025 Hot Docs Festival, an Honourable Mention for Best International Animated Feature Film at the Guadalajara International Film Festival, an Honourable Mention for Best Documentary Feature at the Calgary Underground Film Festival, and Best Documentary at Sitges Film Festival. Endless Cookie continues its momentum this fall with AFI and IDFA Festival, and additional festivals soon to be announced.

Pete and Seth are half brothers. Pete is a first nations carver, poet, mechanic andstoryteller living in Shamattawa. He was recently nominated for a Hero award for savinghis neighbour’s life by rescuing her from a house on fire. Seth is an artist, animator andcarpenter living in Toronto. He won the Best Canadian First Feature at TIFF in 2013 forhis animated feature “Asphalt Watches” that he created with Shayne Ehman.
Along with Seth Scriver, the film was produced by Dan Bekerman, Alex Ordanis, Jason Ryle, and Chris Yurkovich, with Pete Scriver, Neil Mathieson, and Jordan Hart as Executive Producers.
Bill Guentzler and RJ Millard said, “Seth and Pete’s story centers on family bonds, cultural heritage and the innumerable moments that make us human. Their animation style, reminiscent of gonzo filmmakers like Mike Judge, John Kricfalusi and R. Crumb, combine with real-life experiences to tell the most off-the-wall story of family.”
Seth Scriver said, “The goal was to make something funny, beautiful, spiritual, political, complex, simple, and true.” Pete Scriver said, “It’s like discussions around the kitchen table with your family, going from one subject to another, so from politics, to Sasquatch, to trapping, or the seasons.”
The deal was negotiated by Austin Kennedy of Magnify and Bill Guentzler and RJ Millard of Obscured Releasing.
