Set to release in theatres for a limited time only this May 10th and 11th is Labyrinth, the first original feature-length anime film from director Shoji Kawamori, best known for his work on Macross and The Vision of Escaflowne. Both Japanese with English subtitles and English dub will be available for viewing for North American audiences. With this announcement, GKIDS also released a new trailer and poster for Labyrinth.

Labyrinth marks the debut in voice acting for a few popular J-pop stars, including Suzuka from ATARASHII GAKKO! as Shiori Maezawa and Takuto Teranish from timelesz as Suguru Kagami. In addition to music from yonkey, fans can enjoy the film’s theme song “Sailor, Sail on” performed by ATARASHII GAKKO!. Director Shoji Kawamori’s talent for fusing pop music and science fiction presents itself in his latest film, capturing an inspired adventure about navigating your sense of self and social media.

Synopsis

Shiori gets trapped inside her phone after yet another attempt at viral fame gone wrong, and a doppelganger replaces her and takes over her channel to massive success. If Shiori wants to escape the internet, she’ll need to team up with other online outcasts and put an end to her doppelganger’s brainrot plans.
