Arriving ahead of the title’s 20th anniversary, Hoodwinked along with its sequel Hoodwinked Too! have been acquired and rescued by Content Partners LLC with full rights to continue the franchise. The indie success is an atypical reimagining of The Little Red Riding Hood with a wacky sense of humor and powerhouse voice cast, featuring Glenn Close and Anne Hathaway.
Upon release, Hoodwinked became an instant hit, attracting a dedicated fandom that’s kept the love for the film alive throughout the years. But although Hoodwinked has been remembered dearly by fans, the entirety of the film has been unobtainable in recent years, with only a short number of clips remaining online. This acquisition brings Hoodwinked back to audiences around the world, with both titles being distributed by Sony Pictures, and international distribution handled by Lionsgate too. Hoodwinked Too! is still co-owned by Lionsgate as well.
“We’re excited to give Hoodwinked and Hoodwinked Too! a new home as we revive and preserve these beloved films for fans old and new,” President of Content Partners John Mass stated. “This milestone anniversary is the perfect moment to reintroduce the franchise to audiences, particularly as demand for family-friendly animated content continues to grow in the streaming era.”
“This franchise broke new ground for indie animation and showcased the creative vision of Maurice Kanbar and the filmmakers,” John Mass of Content Partners commented. “We look forward to working with our distribution partners to honor the legacy of these films while bringing them back into the cultural conversation.” Jeffrey Kanbar of Kanbar Entertainment added. “We selected Content Partners amongst other prospective acquirers because we thought they would do the best to preserve and carry forward my uncle Maurice’s legacy.”
Representing Kanbar Entertainment in the transaction was Philip Fier of Focus Advisory Services and Erik Hyman of Paul Hastings. Liliana Paparelli Ranger of Latham & Watkins represented Content partners LLC.
