Coming up this August, in a five day event from the 7th to 11th, Heritage will pay tribute to its everlasting relationship with Disney animation history through The Art of Disney Signature Auction with over 1,600 pieces from the culturally significant animation studio.
The Daniel Shak Platinum Collection takes the lead in this auction, as an inspiring collection of Disney’s original production art from the studio’s Golden Age to its Renaissance era. More than 50 lots will be present, featuring priceless pieces such as hand-painted cels, concept art, and drawings from some of the most influential Disney classics, like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and many more.

This collection from Mr. Shak was cultivated in the span of over four decades, bringing together the rarest works sought out by collectors. Most notably, it includes two Snow White concept paintings from the renowned Swedish artist Gustaf Tenggren. The first depicts the scene in which the Old Hag produces the poison apple, while the second shows Snow White in her eternal slumber, moments before she is awakened by the kiss.

“Each piece of the Daniel Shak Platinum Collection is a window into the artistry and imagination that define Disney animation at its finest,” Heritage Vice President of Animation and Anime Art Jim Lentz commented. “His collection is one of the greatest of Disney artworks ever assembled and boasts more Master and Key Master background setups than we’ve ever seen in one auction.”

Other standout pieces in the collection include a Walt Disney signed Cinderella production cel showcasing the princess in her iconic dress just after her Fairy Godmother’s transformation, along with a Sleeping Beauty panoramic production background from the legendary Disney artist Eyvind Earle.
“This is more than just an auction. It’s a landmark moment for Disney collectors,” Jim Lentz added. “The breadth and quality of material on offer this August present a vibrant tribute to the artists, the legacy and the enduring magic of Disney animation.”
