“Dan Da Dan” Hits Theaters May 30th Followed By Season 2 Streaming This July

The hype for Dan Da Dan’s return continues, as on April 3rd, 2025, a global theatrical premiere for the first three episodes of the EVIL EYE arc was announced. In partnership with ADN, GKIDS, and Muse, Mainichi Broadcasting System Inc. will bring a worldwide preview of the hit phenomenon to more than 50 countries and regions—beginning May 30th in Asia via Muse, June 6th in North America via GKIDS, and June 7th in Europe via ADN. As the countdown to season 2 in July comes around, this thrilling preview gives fans around the world a chance to experience what’s coming next.

Since the last episode released in December 2024, the second half of season 1 has continued its production by the experienced and well-loved studio Science SARU (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Devilman crybaby, INU-OH) with composer Kensuke Ushio (Chainsaw Man, Devilman crybaby) expanding his work in the series’ stellar soundtrack. Director Fuga Yamashiro will be co-directing with one of the veterans of Science SARU, Abel Gongora, who directed the animation of Dan Da Dan’s astounding first opening.

Written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu, the original Dan Da Dan manga is ongoing and serialized in Shonen Jump Plus by Shueisha, following in the footsteps of previous shonen under the Shonen Jump imprint. Having previously worked under Tatsuki Fujimoto on Chainsaw Man as well as Yuji Kaku on Hell’s Paradise Jigokuraku, it only makes sense for Dan Da Dan’s genre-blending and wild story to have been learned from the best. Since the anime’s release the manga has more than doubled its sales, surpassing 10 million copies as more and more fans eagerly await the anime’s continuation.

Synopsis

Momo Ayase and her classmate “Okarun” became fast friends after a bet between them went wrong, leaving Momo with awakened powers and Okarun possessed. Facing troubled ghosts lashing out from their unresolved pain and disturbed aliens with a strange fixation on their human anatomy, their romcom school crushes for each other share the stage with the absurd and supernatural. Now their relationship takes another turn as Jiji, Momo’s childhood crush, suddenly appears needing their help. While the three travel to Jiji’s hometown to investigate his seemingly haunted house, Jiji’s now rekindled friendship with Momo forces Okarun to face his jealousy.
