Animation fans will be heading to San Diego this week for Comic-Con. It’s the 50th year of the annual showcase of TV shows, films – and yes, comics. Here’s a handy-dandy guide to some of the biggest panels and presentations for animation lovers during the event:
Thursday:
“Popeye’s 90th Birthday Party” – Warner Archives and King Features commemorate one of the biggest stars in American comics/animation history.
“Batman Beyond 20th Anniversary” – A celebration of the multiple Annie and Emmy Award winning DC series
“SpongeBob’s Birthday Big Blowout” – The voice cast of the Nickelodeon series talks about making the recent hybrid TV special.
“Cartoon Legends Speak: Animators Celebrate Disney Anniversaries”: Talented artists talk about “Sleeping Beauty”‘s 60th, “The Little Mermaid”‘s 30th, “The Lion King”‘s 25th, “Tarzan”‘s 20th and “The Princess and the Frog”‘s 10th anniversaries.
“Teen Titans Go! New Episode Premiere and Q&A” – Fresh off their Primetime Emmy nomination, the Cartoon Network series debuts a new episode. Members of the voice cast will be on hand.
Friday:
“DreamWorks She-Ra and the Princess of Power” – A special peak inside the highly anticipated third season of this Netflix original series
“Cartoon Network First Look” – Updates and first look sneak peeks of upcoming Cartoon Network Studios originals
“Bless the Harts” – FOX’s new Primetime half hour series about a good old southern family debuts at Comic-Con
“DuckTales” – Popular Disney show provides fans insight on Season 3 and footage from never before seen episodes
“[Adult Swim] Robot Chicken” – A celebration of 10 years of “animation insanity”
“A Fan Celebration of Batman and Animation” – How the animated Batman has produced some of the most defining moments in this character’s eight decade-long history
“[Adult Swim] Rick and Morty” – A look at the eagerly awaited fourth season of one of TV’s most successful animated series
“[Adult Swim] Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal” – The man behind “Samurai Jack” and “Hotel Transylvania” presents a special look at this brand new series.
“Bob’s Burgers” – Breaking News about the upcoming season from the creator and cast members
“Archer: Exclusive Sneak Peek Screening and Q&A” – It’s a Season 10 Preview of the FXX award winning hit.
“Worst Cartoons Ever! Hosted by Jerry Beck” – The esteemed animation historian and ASIFA-Hollywood select the most awful animation films ever made.
Saturday:
“The Jetsons and Primetime Hanna-Barbera” – Panel of animation historians will discuss many of the HB classics.
“The Simpsons” – A preview of the 31st Season of the longest-running Primetime animated series.
“Scooby Doo!’s 50th Birthday Bash” – WB Home Entertainment’s half-century celebration of one of the most beloved cartoon characters of all-time.
“American Dad!” – First look at scenes from new episodes coming soon to TBS
“Family Guy” – Cast and crew celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Seth MacFarlane’s FOX hit.
Sunday:
“San Diego International Children’s Film Festival” – It’s the 16th year of this showcase of imaginative short films from around the world: animation, live-action and documentary.
“World Premiere: Scooby Doo! Return to Zombie Island” – See this all-new adventure before it’s released on Digital Sept. 3 and on DVD Oct. 1.
“Meet the Harvey Girls!” – Showrunners and cast will answer your questions about DreamWorks Animation TV’s “Harvey Girls Forever”.
“World Premiere of Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans” – Universes collide! Panel discussion to follow.
“World Premiere of LEGO DC: Batman – Family Matters” – It’s an action packed new film. Star studded panelists will be in attendance.
