On March 25, 2025, GKIDS announced the 4K restoration for three of acclaimed director Mamoru Hosoda’s greatest early films, bringing another round of screenings to their North American audiences. Starting the series of titles off is the love letter to single parents that is Wolf Children, starting May 11th and ending May 13th. Following the nature-focused film comes Summer Wars, a mix of real, digital, and fantastical elements for fan viewing July 27th to July 29th. The series concludes with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, a beloved time-travel romance, screening from September 28th to September 30th.

GKIDS first announced in 2024 that it obtained the North American distribution rights to Mamoru Hosoda’s films. Previously, GKIDS released the critically acclaimed films Mirai (2018) and Belle (2021), which became the director’s biggest hits in North America. Of Mamoru Hosoda’s six nominated features, five have won the Japan Academy Prize for “Animation of the Year.” This achievement made Mamoru Hosoda the only Japanese animation director other than Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki to earn an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

This series of rereleases continues the celebration of director Mamoru Hosoda’s work by GKIDS’ in 2025. As tickets for the three films go on sale next month, GKIDS also has pre-orders for some of Hosoda’s titles to be viewed at home in 4K and SteelBook versions.
