Today, in Culver City, California, Crunchyroll (widely recognized as the industry’s leading anime brand) made the announcement that tickets for OVERLORD: The Sacred Kingdom are now available for purchase in the United States and Canada. Brought to audiences by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures, the film will be in theaters on November 8th and offer multiple viewing experiences with both Japanese and English subtitles in addition to an English dub.

Highly renowned OVERLORD franchise gets its first theatrical film with the release of OVERLORD: The Sacred Kingdom, a continuation of the series by Kugane Maruyama. Continuing where Season 4 left off, the story focuses on the Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown, previously known as Momonga, who ascended to this title after being suddenly transported into the world of his favorite video game. When the villainous Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth and his forces threaten the peace of this world, an unexpected alliance is made as the Sorcerer King and his kingdom work with enemies and allies alike to defeat a common enemy.

Film Synopsis
After logging in to his favorite MMORPG game for the last time, Momonga, an active player of twelve years, is forced to play the game endlessly as he’s transported into its world. Up until now, The Sacred Kingdom, a previously flourishing territory, has known
peace for many years as they’ve been protected from neighboring territories by their formidable wall. With the arrival of the Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth and his devious army of demi-humans, the Sacred Kingdom now faces the end of its era of peace and moves into uncertain times.

Amid the threat of invasion, the neighboring territory of the Slane Theocracy desperately seeks help from none other than their own enemies at the Sorcerer Kingdom. In response to their plea, Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown unites his kingdom and its undead troops to join the fight with the Slane Theocracy in an effort to defeat the Demon Emperor

About Franchise
Behind the screen, Momonga is a regular salaryman, but within his favorite MMORPG video game, he’s a respectable guild leader and veteran player of twelve years. With the news of the game’s servers being shut down, Momonga plays the game in its final moments, logging in for the last time. As midnight approaches though, something miraculous happens. Momonga doesn’t find himself face to face with the end of the game, instead, he’s been transported into its world! During his time trapped in the video game, Momonga becomes
Sorcerer King Ains Ooal Gown.

Made by Kugane Maruyama, the story was originally created as a web novel that ended up being adapted into light novels and manga publications. With the success of the franchise, an anime series was released in 2017 and quickly
became a fan favorite. All seasons of the anime series are available to stream on Crunchyroll, including two season recap films, OVERLORD: The Undead King and OVERLORD: The Dark Hero.
