The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that nominations for its 89th Annual Academy Awards. The 5 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their directors:
KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS Laika – Travis Knight
MOANA Disney – Ron Clements, John Musker
MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI GKids – Claude Barras
THE RED TURTLE Studio Ghibli – Michaël Dudok de Wit
ZOOTOPIA Disney. D: Byron Howard, Rich Moore.
Best animated short film nominees were:
Blind Vaysha Theodore Ushev
Borrowed Time Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj
Pear Cider and Cigarettes Robert Valley and Cara Speller
Pearl Patrick Osborne
Piper Alan Barillaro and Marc Sondheimer
Additionally, Life Animated was nominated for Best Documentary. Trolls (“Can’t Stop The Feeling”) and Moana (“How Far I’ll Go”) were nominated for Best Song. Kubo and The Two Strings was nominated for Best Visual Effects.
(A live action short titled Sing was nominated – but it is not to be confused with the animated feature).
The 89th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 26th, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
