Tokyo has a monster problem.

They’re called Cursed Spirits—the physical manifestations of humanity’s darkest emotions—and they thrive in crowded cities.

Who they gonna call?

Curse-busters. Or rather, as Jujutsu Kaisen calls them, “Jujutsu Sorcerers,” a network of professional exorcists. At Sugisawa Third High School, the Occult Phenomenon Research Club investigates the paranormal. One member, Yuji Itadori, saves the life of fellow student Megumi Fushiguro by swallowing the finger of a powerful Cursed Spirit, Ryomen Sukuna—and suddenly finds himself sharing his body with the legendary “King of Curses.” Now Yuji has to consume the remaining fingers so Sukuna’s fragments can be contained in one body. He transfers to Tokyo Jujutsu High, a secret sorcerer school, to train and battle the Curses, mindful that once he eats all the fingers, he’s sentenced to die.

Jujutsu Kaisen originated as a manga series by Gege Akutami, first serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 2018 and adapted into an anime in 2020. A second season premiered in 2023. A prequel manga, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, was published in 2017 and was adapted as an animated feature released in 2021. It earned about $191 million worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing anime films of 2021. This prequel focused on another student, Yuta Okkotsu, who later shows up in the series as Yuji’s potential executioner following Season Two’s Shibuya Incident.

In 2023, the Guinness Book of World Records awarded Jujutsu Kaisen as “the most in-demand animated TV show” with a global demand 71.2 times greater than the average TV program.

Now Jujutsu Kaisen is in its third season, which began January 8, 2026. This is Part One in a lengthy story arc called “The Culling Game,” in which sorcerers battle inside sealed colonies throughout Japan. All three seasons, plus the movie, are streaming on Crunchyroll.

Yes, it’s gory. It’s gruesome. Jujutsu Kaisen is not for the squeamish. Which is why it’s rated TV-MA = Mature Audience Only. Recommended for ages 17 and older. The movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is rated PG-13 Parents strongly cautioned.  Not recommended for children under age 13.
