For the month of October, Heritage Auctions brings its next installment of its ongoing Art of Anime & Everything Cool series. The latest volume, Vol. VII, is also spotlighting the 40th Studio Ghibli anniversary, Banksy’s The Simpsons collaboration, Charles M. Schulz, Tim Burton and Hanna-Barbara.

In an effort to raise money for artists alike, Pamela Aldon presents her own collection of animation cels from King of the Hill. Spanning over five days from October 17-21, the auction will feature over 2,500 lots.
“This auction is truly a celebration of animation in all its forms, and is one of the most ambitious and comprehensive animation auctions ever assembled,” commented Jim Lentz, Heritage’s Vice President of Animation and Anime Art. “The scope and variety here reflect nearly a century of creativity, innovation and storytelling that shaped not just an art form, but global culture itself. It’s a vivid tribute to the artists and studios that forever changed how we see and imagine the world.”
As one of many lots, Heritage presents an original Banksy drawing commemorating his collaboration with The Simpson’s, for the “MoneyBART” episode’s opening. The dark and shocking criticism of abusive practices led to disputes over whether it could even be aired, and censorship when it finally did. With a signed signature from the artist himself, this crossover moment for The Simpson’s and Banksy fans is up for grabs, along with more than 175 other lots of production art from The Simpson’s.

With the generous donation from Pamela Adlon, King of the Hill fans have the chance to support creatives in the entertainment industry through bidding on art from the Mike Judge series. Offering over 90 lots with drawings, scripts, signed production cels, and other collectables all from Aldon’s collection, the auction will certainly pay respect to the most iconic and fan-favorite episodes of King of the Hill.
The next section of the auctions celebrates 40 years of Studio Ghibli history, showcasing a production cel from the classic My Neighbor Totoro and 80 significant pieces from the studio. Some of the standouts include production cels from Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

However, Studio Ghibli isn’t the only representative for anime in this auction. Over 1,000 lots feature anime art from every corner of the genre, spanning from historic works such as Astro Boy to recent fan-favorites like My Hero Academia and Naruto. Notably, Akira, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Pokémon, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Berserk, and Fullmetal Alchemist all make appearances.
Chuck Jones, highly regarded by Heritage as one of the greatest creatives to work with the medium, will have the largest collection of his art ever presented in this auction with over 200 lots, most prominently showcasing an Acrobats Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck oil painting and various rare and signed artworks.

Another one of the largest offerings from one franchise presented in the auction is from Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner, also featuring cels from Pepé Le Pew, Marvin the Martian, and What’s Opera, Doc?. Fans can also look forward to a watercolor of Bugs Bunny and Gossamer, Grinch artwork, and more.
The “Everything Cool” section has expanded, still covering anything and everything animation history. From Space Ghost to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to The Lord of the Rings and The Iron Giant, historic artifacts for fan-favourites await. Highlights among the collection include autographs from Hanna-Barbera founders, artwork from Tim Burton and John Alvin, storyboards from the prototype to The Flintstones, “The Flagstones,” and even props and production macquettes from Coraline, Corpse Bride, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
“This is one of the most comprehensive and exciting non-Disney animation auctions ever assembled,” Lentz stated. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans and collectors to acquire historic artifacts spanning every major studio.”
