Today, September 3rd, 2025, GKIDS shared its plans to bring Little Amélie Or The Character Of Rain (Amélie et la Métaphysique des tubes) to the big screen on November 7th. Ahead of its nationwide release, the film will open in certain markets on October 31st.

Little Amélie Or The Character Of Rain appeared at the 2025 Annecy International Animation Festival as an Official Selection, where it was awarded the Audience Award. The Annecy winning title is set to have its North American screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. Next, it will screen at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival as an Official Selection in both festivals.

The upcoming feature is animated in a dazzling and unique style straight from directors Mailys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han, and based on the autobiographical novel of Amélie Nothomb. The soul-searching story of Amélie’s journey is sure to touch hearts, minds, and eyes with stunning and poignant visuals.

Synopsis 

Little Amélie Or The Character Of Rain follows Amélie, for whom the world is a complex yet untroubled mystery—until she tastes chocolate for the first time, unlocking her endless curiosity. At the same time, Amélie bonds closely with Nishio-san, her family’s housekeeper, while discovering the marvels of nature and uncovering the hidden truths of her family’s lifestyle living in post-war Japan as foreigners.
