Following its explosively successful Kickstarter in 2021, the comedy mecha anime Metal Skin Panic Madox-01 is now set to release on Sept 16th for HD enjoyment. A hidden gem from 1989, it was originally licensed by AnimEigo, and primarily gained its recognition 30 years after its initial debut.
The ongoing tension between Ace test-pilot Kusumoto Elle and macho commander Lt. Kilgore only rises as an unknown rogue MADOX appears. Kilgore takes the threat as a chance to even the score between them and prove himself. But unfortunately, that MADOX had inexplicably fallen from the back of a truck, off a bridge, and into the back of another truck, where the simple college student Sugimoto Kōji had stumbled upon it.
Without even reading the manual, Kōji messed around with the battlesuit and wound up trapped inside, and before he knew it, he was speeding around Tokyo. Kilgore’s soldiers attacked him, but the MADOX went on the defensive autonomously, utterly trashing skyscrapers all around in the ensuing fight.
The destruction worries Elle, as her boyfriend might get caught in the crossfire, and Kōji’s just a civilian! As she dons her own prototype MADOX to search for him, he searches for a way out of this fight–and a way to make it on time for their date.
Misunderstandings and absurd escalations follow as mecha battles commence between three star-crossed fighters, all unknowingly with the same goal: Stopping the rogue MADOX!
