I think it might be time for GKIDS to change their name — or at least create a differently named subsidiary for their growing library of animation aimed at adults.
I work at a library, and I’ve had multiple attempts at pushing their titles on older — and let’s face it, SNOBBIER — ‘film buffs’ end with a no. They look over the case, see ‘GKIDS’, and no matter how hard I try to tell them otherwise, put it down because they “don’t like kids’ movies.”
And this is at a library, where it’s FREE!
Now apply this dumb af consumer mindset to DVDs, Blu-Rays, digital downloads and theater tickets, and GKIDS *may* be losing a lot of potential revenue over something as small as their company’s name.
(For the record, I l-o-v-e GKIDS output, and want them to stay in business FOREVER!)
