New York’s Metrograph has a double-bill of Bill Plympton films taking place this Sunday (6/1). On top of the showings this weekend—which include features I Married a Strange Person and Cheatin’ (each screening with two shorts), both with filmmaker introductions—the program will also be arriving on our streaming platform, Metrograph At Home, on June 1. As a fun bonus, instead of a Q&A, Plympton will be chatting with audience-members in the lobby after the screening and drawing special sketches for people to take home (!!).

With a career that took off in 1987 with the Oscar-nominated short Your Face, the now 79-year-young New York-based director and animator has reached what can only be called a tier of legendary status for his ‘twistes toons’ and signature hand-drawn style. An icon of independent animation that purposefully turned down an opportunity to work with Disney, his shorts and features have earned him numerous awards and international recognition, while The Simpsons creator Matt Groening famously once called him “God,” a compliment that’s hard to beat.
With his last feature Slide out in 2023 and another one in the works, Plympton is still eagerly creating, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be welcoming him to 7 Ludlow. Full details CLICK HERE. And if you are in New York – GO!!
