On February 13, 2025, GKIDS announced that it had acquired the North American rights to COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, which is set to premiere in North American theatres on April 11, 2025.
The upcoming film is based on the rhythm game HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE! Since its release in 2020, the game has achieved huge success, amassing 10 million users just within its first two years.
Hoshino Ichika, a high school musician, comes across a Hatsune Miku who cannot sing. Seeking to better connect to her audience with music, Miku enlists Ichika for help. Aside from new characters, the film includes the main cast and Virtual Singer performers of HATSUNE MIKU: COLORFUL STAGE!, reprising their original roles.
COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing showcases the theme song “Hajimari no Mirai” by 40mP and sasakure.UK, performed by Hatsune Miku. The film’s ending song, “Worlders”, is composed by Jin and features a special arrangement by renowned producer TeddyLoid. Originally released in Japan on January 17, the film debuted at #2 at the box office, raising over 570 million yen. The acquisition of North American rights marks the first collaboration between GKIDS and CyberAgent.
