NOW WHAT!? is a new non-profit animation initiative that intends to use the power of cartoons to illuminate politics and policies for younger voters. Because animation is a wonderful medium of expression and connection through imagery and comedic storytelling, the initiative hopes to demystify political ideas through effective communication.

The first fundraiser for the non-profit will take place on Friday, May 17th at Titmouse in Los Angeles. The event will provide the opportunity to meet artists and creatives in the animation industry as well as a (currently secret) lineup of exciting comedic talent. Food and drinks will be provided- tickets are suggested at $100. However, the event is “pay-what-you-can” so that the event can be more accessible.

Founded by Brendan Burch (CEO and co-founder of the award-winning animation studio Six Point Harness), NOW WHAT!? is aiming to produce up to 20 shorts that will focus on political topics and issues that will resonate with GenZ voters: reproductive rights, economic justice, climate change, and gun control.
“We want to reach young voters where they are, in a medium they respond to, with messages that they clearly understand — because what’s at stake in this election, and in every election at every level of government, is no less than the future of democracy,” Burch stated. “While younger voters are concerned about and aware of the issues, they don’t always understand how much power and agency they have through their vote. Turnout for voters 60+ is almost double of that for voters between 18 and 29. And as we learned ourselves growing up, learning about government, policy and social issues can be fun and entertaining. We want to make it that way for a new generation.”
Burch also said, “the support we’ve received from the animation community so far has been absolutely tremendous, and we’re eager to share what we’re doing with everyone. We need all the help we can get to reach our content goal for 2024”.
